SBA 504 Loan Borrower Named America’s Retail Champion of the Year
Florida First Capital is pleased to share that its customer and 504 loan borrower Lisa Mergel, owner of Kanvas in Tallahassee, was recently honored as the 2018 “America’s Retail Champion of the Year” by the National Retail Federation.
Kanvas is a boutique day spa and beauty products store that Mergel opened in 2007. In 2012, she worked with Florida First Capital and utilized the Small Business Administration (SBA) 504 Loan Program to secure financing to purchase and renovate a 4,109 square-foot retail building to accommodate their expanding product and service offerings.
Kanvas has 10 employees and offers an internship program for Florida State University students studying retail business and merchandising.
The America’s Retail Champions program began five years ago to honor retailers who’ve been instrumental in crafting public policy debates tied to the retail industry. According to the Florida Retail Federation, more than 40 retailers from across the nation, ranging from online sellers to small and mid-size store owners, were nominated by state retail associations and their peers.
Mergel was honored for leading the charge in advancing critical policy initiatives important to the retail sector at both the state and federal levels. It’s the second time Mergel has been recognized by her peers in the retail industry. In 2016, she was named Florida Retailer of the Year.
Florida First Capital wishes to offer its hardiest congratulations to Mergel and Kanvas on this outstanding achievement! Well done!
