Spodak Dental Group is changing the name of dentistry in South Florida, thanks to a new 13,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, eco-friendly building. To Dr. Craig Spodak, DMD, the long-anticipated building is a dream come true.
Dr. Spodak worked with Florida First Capital to secure a Small Business Administration (SBA) 504 loan for the project located in Delray Beach, which included ground-up construction on a previously purchased two acre site as well as the acquisition of specialized dental equipment and FF&E. For the design of the building, Dr. Spodak engaged the internationally renowned Michael Singer Studio to re-imagine what a dental office could be as a progressive healthcare facility. Dr. Spodak requested a biophilic, environmentally-sound, holistic building and landscape that will comfort patients, inspire staff, and create an open and transparent facility.
The building provides space for 18 dental operatories, laboratory space, offices, gathering spaces, a learning center, a waiting area and support spaces, and is Gold LEED Certified.
“The 504 loan program allowed Dr. Spodak to make a sizable investment in his dental practice with a very low down payment (10%), which insures sufficient working capital can be kept in reserve to meet the needs of his growing practice,” said Deborah Petrell, Senior Vice President and Sales Team Leader for Florida First Capital.
The primarily design goal for the new building was to create abundant natural lighting and indoor spaces that feel a part of the surrounding landscape and gardens. Every operatory has a vertical expanse of glass from floor-to-ceiling; three areas have full floor-to-ceiling glass that wrap to the roof.
The building shell utilizes functional concrete construction and expresses cast-in-place concrete columns, lintels and select walls as visual extensions of the facades, contrasting with the white stucco base finish of the facades.
The southern half of the building visibly sheds water off the roof through concrete outfalls down into a vegetated bioswale landscape. The north half of the building collects rainwater into a cistern for supplemental irrigation for the northeast and east gardens that have more water intensive fruit trees, herb and vegetable gardens, and a tropical shade garden.
Some non-transparent building walls have trellis cables to support green walls of vines that reduce heat gain and attract butterflies and avian wildlife. At key locations, the exterior gardens integrate small acoustic water elements, cast concrete seat walls and sculptural paving.
Founded in 1976 by Dr. Spodak's father, Myles, the Spodak Dental Group has evolved to become South Florida's premier, comprehensive dental facility. The practice consists of four general dentists and contracts services with six specialists. The team of general and restorative dentists, endodontists, periodontists, board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons and anesthesiologists are uniquely equipped to treat all dental needs in one convenient location.
Services include digital x-ray imaging, periodontal care, power whitening, bonding, extractions, root canal therapy, ceramic crowns, porcelain veneers, dental implants, complete cosmetic and reconstructive smile enhancement, sleep dentistry (sedations) and more.
There is also a full dental lab on the premises. This not only services all the needs of the practice, but has branched out to service other dentists. There are currently only two dental practices similar to the Spodak Dental Group in the entire state of Florida.
This all-in-one approach to dentistry allows the Spodak Dental Group to give patients the immediate care they need, furthering the relentless dedication to superior dental care.
The Spodak Dental Group is currently working in the new facility and welcomes current and future patients. The growing company expects to generate about 20 jobs in the coming year.
